Recently, I built a YouTube Music-inspired mobile application using React Native and Expo. The project features a modern dark-themed interface, actual music playback, an interactive music player, music discovery, playlists, and a dedicated library.

The most important part? This isn't just a static UI clone. It supports real audio playback with play, pause, next, and previous song controls.

The application recreates several familiar music streaming experiences in a React Native mobile application.

It includes six main screens:

The goal was to combine an attractive music application interface with practical playback functionality.

Technology Stack

1. Home Screen – Music Discovery\

The home screen is designed to provide quick access to music and curated collections.

It includes a featured music banner, Quick Picks, and Mixed for You sections.

Key features:

• Featured music banner.
• Quick Picks with song thumbnails.
• Artist and song information.
• Music mix collections.
• Category navigation.
• Persistent mini music player.

The layout keeps important music content accessible without making the interface complicated.

2. Music Player Screen – Real Audio Playback

This is the central feature of the application.

I wanted to create more than a music player interface that simply looks functional. The application includes actual audio playback functionality.

The player screen provides:

• Play and pause functionality.
• Next song control.
• Previous song control.
• Song title and artist information.
• Album artwork.
• Playback progress indicator.
• Seek functionality.
• Shuffle control.
• Repeat control.
• Additional music interaction options.

The large central playback button makes it easy to control the currently playing track.

The player also includes navigation for Up Next, Lyrics, and Related sections.

3. Up Next Screen – Music Queue\

A music application needs a way to display upcoming tracks.

The Up Next screen displays the currently playing song along with other songs in the playback queue.

Features include:

• Currently playing song highlighting.
• Upcoming songs list.
• Song thumbnails.
• Artist information.
• Queue management interface.
• Save queue option.

This provides users with a clear overview of their listening sequence.

4. Explore Screen – Discover Music\

The Explore screen is focused on music discovery.

It includes a search bar, trending searches, and visually engaging music categories.

Available categories include:

• Charts
• New Releases
• Pop
• Bollywood
• Workout
• Romance
• Hip Hop
• Chill
• Rock
• Indie

The category-based layout makes browsing music more intuitive.

5. Music Library – Playlists and Collections\

The Library screen provides a dedicated area for accessing music collections.

It contains four main sections:

• Playlists
• Songs
• Albums
• Artists

The playlist section includes collections such as:

• Liked Music
• My Favorites
• Chill Vibes
• Workout
• Road Trip
• Study Music
• Party Hits

There is also a New Playlist interface.

The design uses playlist artwork, names, and song counts to keep the library visually organized.

6. Related Songs – Discover More Music\

The Related Songs screen provides another way to discover tracks while listening to music.

It displays a list of additional songs with their artwork and artist information.

Users can browse these tracks directly from the player experience.

7. Persistent Mini Music Player

One useful part of the application is its persistent mini player.

It appears at the bottom of the main application screens, allowing users to continue browsing while keeping music controls accessible.

Mini player features:

• Current song artwork.
• Song title.
• Artist name.
• Play and pause control.
• Next song control.
• Playback progress.
• Expandable player interface.

This makes the overall listening experience more convenient.
